Paper quilling has become quite the trendy hobby, but it’s also a great way to create unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry. With these beautiful earrings and pendants, you can add a little sparkle to your wardrobe or use them as gifts for friends.
The designs in this book are surprisingly simple to make. They’re the perfect project for beginners who want to try their hand at making gorgeous, wearable art. The author shows how to create the intricate scrolls and coils that characterize this ancient craft, and she also provides instructions for combining these shapes into unique designs.
First gather your supplies and prepare a work surface. You’ll need a non-stick surface that will allow you to easily remove glued pieces. A Styrofoam tray works well, but an acrylic sheet or waxed paper will work too. You’ll also need a tool (I used the handle of a clay modeling tool) to shape the ring coils and a quilling needle to insert your beads.
You can purchase a quilling needle from most craft stores and online, but you can also make your own. It’s a cinch to do and will save you money. The author recommends using a clear glue to prevent blotching, but I’ve found that even Elmer’s school glue works well (and dries clear).
Licia Politis, who often shares her own paper quilling projects on Instagram, used the silver and gold edge quilling strips in this pair of earrings and made them more colorful.
